ZOO

Right after the Zwierzyniecki Bridge, there is a zoo that operates since 1865 with just two breaks (the first one was between 1921 and 1927 because the city got poor after the WW1 and the second one after the WW2). This the biggest zoo with the biggest variety of animals in Poland.

Most of the zoo buildings were designed by Karl Schmidt.

The mission of the Zoo is to keep a biological diversity with the care of the valuable development of future generations. The main principle in the zoo is to keep the environment as close to natural as possible.

In 2015 on the 150^th anniversary of opening a brand new Africanarium.

While at the zoo you should focus on how historical buildings from the 19^th century were adapted to meet modern requirements. Especially in Monkey house and Butterfly house.
